Business Voice: How to Lock Your Phone

Overview

This guide explains how to configure the “Phone Lock” option on the “Business Voice” and “Business Voice+” platforms.

The “Phone Lock” option enables users to lock their phones in order to prevent unauthorized access to phone features such as placing calls, accessing menus, or viewing directories. When lock is configured and enabled, any user can still call an emergency number (911) from a locked phone.

Supported Phones

This feature is available on the following desk phone models:

  1. Polycom Desk Phones:

VVX models - 101, 201, 300, 301, 310, 311, 400, 401, 410, 411, 500, 501, 600, 601, 150, 250, 350, 450, and CCX500

  1. Yealink Desk Phones:

T models - 40P, 41P, 42G, 46G, 48G, 41S, 42S, 46S, 48S, 43U, 46U, 48U, 53W, 54W, 57W, 58A, 58W, and VP59

How to configure the “Phone Lock” option on Polycom

  1. Login to the Business Voice Portal.
  1. Navigate to the Phone options page:

Configuration->Individual Phone Settings->Phone Options

  1. Select “Yes” in the “Enable Phone Lock Softkey?” field.
  1. Set the “Lock phone after how many seconds?” field.
  1. Note: Maximum acceptable value is 3600 seconds. Default is 0 (timer is off, phone can be locked manually via Lock softkey or via Phone’s menu)
  1. Click the    Save    button.
  1. After all changes have been completed, click the    SAVE CHANGES TO SYSTEM    button in the top right corner of the page.

  1. Login to the Business Voice Portal.

NOTE: The default unlock password/pin is 123 for both Polycom and Yealink. Password/pin can be changed via phones menu, please refer to your phone model/firmware specific user manual for details.

If a user forgot the newly set unlock password/pin, the locked phone can still be unlocked by entering the admin password for your specific phone model.
