How does recording work on Sangoma Meet?

Sangoma Meet introduced local recording with the release of V3.0.

Local recording is available to free (for a limited time) and paid subscribers. Local recording allows participants to record meeting video and audio locally to a computer. The recorded files can be uploaded to a file storage service like Dropbox, Google Drive, or a streaming service like YouTube or Vimeo.

Limitations

Local recordings don't support the following features:

  • Display participants' names in the recording
  • Screen recording will not happen when you are on Tile View. In this case, your recording will be on audio-only mode.
  • Only the moderator can start the recording.
  • Record using the iOS or Android app
  • A Cloud archive of past recordings

Starting a local recording

The host (moderator) must record the meeting or grant the ability to record to a participant.

  • Start a Sangoma Meet meeting as the host (moderator).
  • Click the "REC" button located at the bottom right of the meeting screen. A new window will pop up where you can see a big blue button. Click on the "Start Recording" blue button to start:

  • Click "Close" or anywhere outside of the Recording window to close this pop up window.
  • All participants will see a recording indicator in the top-right corner while recording is active.
  • Note that the screen being shared should be in "Active Speaker" layout for the person who is recording the meeting, otherwise if they remain in "Tile View" layout, the recording will only capture the audio.
  • After the meeting has ended, Sangoma Meet will convert the recording to a "Webm" format and the download will be started immediately.

Stopping or pausing a local recording

During a Sangoma Meet recording, the host can Stop the recording at any time. If the host stops the recording and starts it again, a new video file will be created for the next recording segment.

  1. After a recording has been started, click the "REC" button again to get to the recording window.
  2. Click on the "Stop Recording" red button to stop.
  3. After you stop recording, a webm file will be generated and the downloaded immediately. You can access the local recording files on your computer.

Note:

If you are using Windows 10, you will have to renew the permission you have given Sangoma Meet to make the recording work properly. If you find your recordings are capturing a blank screen, this is a sign which you will need to renew your permission.
