Polycom® VVX® EM 50 Expansion Module Installation Guide

This guide provides instructions on how to assemble and connect Polycom® VVX® EM 50 Expansion Modules to Polycom VVX 450 business IP phones. A VVX 450 phone can be fitted with up to 2 VVX EM 50 modules.

Note: The VVX EM 50 Expansion Module is only supported on VVX 450 phones, running UC Software 5.8.2 or later.

Connect an Expansion Module to a Phone

Note: It is recommended that the expansion module be configured in the Star2Star portal by an Administrator prior to installation. ( Expansion Module Portal Configuration Guide )

Before connecting an expansion module to a phone, power-down the phone by unplugging the Internet connection and/or power supply. Remove the stand from the phone, if necessary.

  1. Insert the USB plug of the expansion module into the USB port on the side of the host phone.
  1. Place the phone and the expansion module upside down on a soft surface.
  1. Insert the supplied screw into the bracket screw hole and, using a screwdriver, secure the expansion module to the phone, as shown.

Connect Additional Expansion Modules

Before connecting an expansion module to a phone, power-down the phone by unplugging the Internet connection and/or power supply. Remove the stand from the phone, if necessary.

  1. Place the phone, with the connected expansion module, upside down on a soft surface.
  1. Remove the connecting screw from the left side of the first connected module.
  1. Insert the USB plug on the second expansion module into the USB port of the first connected expansion module.
  1. Using the screw you removed from the first expansion module, use a screwdriver and the screw to secure the second expansion module to the first, as shown.

  1. Attach the stand or wall mount to the expansion model.
  1. Power-up the phone by connecting the Internet connection and/or power supply. Power and signalling automatically transfer from the host phone to the expansion modules.
